SOCIAL WORK STUDY PROGRAMME
 
 
The Department of Social Work offers single-major undergraduate and graduate study programmes. Students can enrol full-time (state-funded or self-financing) or part-time.
 
Undergraduate study programme (6 semesters – 180 ECTS credits)
 
The undergraduate Social Work study programme enables students to master the terminology and basic knowledge of the field of social work and related disciplines: law, sociology, psychology, social medicine, social psychiatry, special education.
 
Upon successful completion of the undergraduate Social Work study programme students will be able to:
 
-define and classify terminology and basic knowledge in the field of social work and related disciplines: sociology, anthropology, psychology, law;
 
-interpret and explain appropriate social work methods and techniques;
 
-analyse and evaluate the use of theoretical, cultural and professional skills which enable an analysis of the reality they deal with and the use of instruments of professional performance, primarily in situations of social risk that are encountered by individuals, groups or local communities;
 
-apply appropriate communication skills and abilities in order to contribute to human welfare;
 
-evaluate and plan forms of supportive psychosocial approach and work with individuals, groups or communities.
 
Upon successful completion of the undergraduate Social Work study programme the student acquires the academic degree Bachelor of Social Work.
 
Bachelors of Social Work can be engaged in collaborative tasks of service organization when specific problems are to be dealt with: situations of psychosocial risk, deviant situations in different sectors, opiate addiction, emigrations. Bachelors of Social Work can also be engaged in programmes for general human development, fighting poverty and social exclusion. Employment prospects: public and private institutions which either directly or indirectly deal with the problem of protection of the most vulnerable groups, public and private institutions which have social, health, economic and political character, as well as non-government organizations.
 
Graduate study programme (4 semesters – 120 ECTS credits)
 
The single-major graduate Social Work study programme enables students to master the fields of social work, social politics and social management in an advanced manner. Emphasis is put on developing skills of analytical interpretation of social phenomena as well as on the scientific-research approach in the analysis and solving problems in the society.
 
Upon successful completion of the single-major graduate Social Work study programme, students will be able to:
 
-analyse and interpret the fields of social work, social politics and social management;
 
-interpret social phenomena;
 
-develop scientific-research approach in analysis and dealing with problems faced by society;
 
-plan and develop social care programmes and other similar programmes related to public institutions such as administrative law institutions, non-governmental organizations, scientific and political institutions, educational institutions;
 
-plan and implement social work, social politics and social management programmes in the fields of healthcare, education and in cases of social exclusion, marginalization, immigration and family issues. Other fields include problems of the following groups: senior citizens, persons with disabilities, addicts, convicts, etc.;
 
-organize activities and perform the function of service and department managers, as well as managing group work and analysing needs and projects in local communities;
 
-develop and evaluate projects in the field of social needs (family conflicts, juvenile delinquency, addiction, homelessness, multicultural conflicts, etc.)
 
Upon successful completion of the single-major graduate Social Work study programme students acquire the academic degree Master of Social Work.
 
Masters of Social Work are highly professional individuals who have mastered different disciplines and are therefore competent for interdisciplinary work. They will be able to manage and organize public and private institutions individually and lead extensive and demanding interdisciplinary projects in the fields of social work, social politics and social management.
